SHAH ALAM: The tourism ministry will help promote the City of Digital Lights internationally as the country's tourist nightspot attraction, said minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen.
City of Digital Lights, located at the I-City in Section 7 here, is an investment by I-Bhd, the developer of I-City, which comprises decorative lightscapes for the park and streets (Phase One), dynamic light shows involving both lasers and light emitting diod screens (Phase 2) and interactive light experience (Phase 3).
I-City is a 29ha integrated commercial township with development cost of RM2 billion, equipped with 20 megabit per second broadband connectivity.
Apart from the Bintang Walk in Kuala Lumpur, Dr Ng said tourists would like to see other night attractions as well. The City of Digital Lights in i-City could thus be another sightseeing nightspot, she said, adding that beautiful lights and shows at night were among the attractions of big cities like Las Vegas and Shanghai.
Dr Ng, who was speaking to reporters after presenting prizes to 13 winners of i-City: City of Digital Lights 'Million Lights Million Hearts' Photo Contest, said Tourism Malaysia could add some attraction to the light showcase in I-City by bringing cultural dance shows in the township like zapin, joget, sewang and sumazau which the tourists could participate in.
The ministry would also bring over 1,000 travel writers, journalists and tour operators via its Mega Familiarisation programme to I-City, to give a global exposure of the new tourist nightspot in the country.

I-Bhd founder Datuk Lim Kim Hong said about 5,000 visitors turned up at the City of Digital Lights every night, and that the number doubled during weekends.
He said the number of visitors would increase to 10,000 daily after the June launching of the second phase of the City of Digital Lights which would include the "Hibiscus in the Sky" attraction. - BERNAMA
